Once again Pfluger Park in Pflugerville, Texas was an absolute delight to use as a backdrop for the set of maternity portraits I was asked to do for Jennifer and her husband. Not only does the park offer a diverse set of backdrops but it is remote and quiet, especially useful for those moms-to-be who are more shy and reserved about showing off their baby bump! The lighting, the weather, my clients were all great and the results truly show that. We captured some absolutely beautiful maternity portraits! I’ve always been hesitant about shooting portraits at Zilker Park in Austin, not because of any flaw of the parks, which is one of the only places in Austin that you can find verdant, freshly cut grass, but because you invariably will have one or more passersby in your shots, and despite all the technological advances lenses and cameras and Photoshop have it is difficult to be able to remove everyone and their dogs, literally.
Despite all my hesitations we headed out to Zilker Park to do just that, take a handful of maternity portraits for Crystal and Doug. While we did run into trouble a few times, a quick “excuse me” fixed all that and I don’t think that either myself or Crystal and Doug could have been happier with the result of their maternity portraits.

Sometimes you just get lucky. Plain and simple. This past weekend forecasted overcast skies and rain, and it did in fact rain for a good portion of Saturday only to break just as my evening session was supposed to begin. It was hot, and humid but Crystal, Doug and I walked Zilker park and shot some absolutely stunning shots, this one included, which happened to be one of the last shots we took on our way out of the park. Sometimes patience and a big helping of luck is all you need to get an absolutely fantastic shot!
